The Volkswagen Group sold 771,000 electric cars in 2023, 34% more than the previous year
We recently reviewed the Volkswagen brand’s sales data, demonstrating a notable increase in electric vehicle sales over the previous year. We now have statistics from the Volkswagen Group, which encompasses all its brands: Volkswagen, Audi, Cupra, and Skoda. This data shows that the European conglomerate is still seeing significant growth in this market.
Last year, the Volkswagen Group reached 9.2 million units sold among all its engines, 23% more than in 2022.
Seven hundred seventy-one thousand one hundred have been battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). This number indicates an annual rise of 34.7% and an 8.38% sales share.
This share varies by market; in Europe, for instance, it has accumulated 472,400 units and achieved 12.5% of sales. This increase is concerning. The proportion has been 11.2% since 2022. Something that shows us that the surge in electric car registrations in Europe is stagnant.
71,000 of the 731,100 vehicles the Volkswagen Group supplied to the US were electric. This translates to a 60.8% increase over 2022 and enables the US business to secure a 10% share of the electric sales market.
Additionally, there was a great deal of interest regarding Volkswagen’s data in China, the largest vehicle market in the world. 191,800 electric vehicles were supplied by the Germans there, a 23.2% rise over the previous year and a 5.9% market share. Just 1% higher than the past year.
The company releases sales data exclusively for specific models in the Chinese market. Consequently, 61,7000 ID.4 units and 75,700 ID.3 units were provided.
With 393,700 units, Volkswagen is the brand that accounts for most electric deliveries. In contrast, Seat/Cupra delivered 45,300 units (+44.3%), while Skoda delivered 81,700 units (+52.1%). Up to 118,200 units, Audi reported a 51% increase in electrified deliveries. This is equivalent to around 6.2% of all the Hoops brand shipped cars. Porsche’s 40,600 units accounted for 12.7% of the total (320,200) deliveries.
These have been the electric cars of the Volkswagen Group with the most sales in 2023:
- ID.4/ID.5: 223,100 units (+15.4%)
- ID.3: 140,800 units (+83.8%)
