KIA presents the new Kia EV6 with an updated design and a more capable battery

KIA has presented the renewed EV6 in South Korea, which despite being on sale for a short period (launched on the market at the end of 2021), has benefited from a restyling that modifies its aesthetics to resemble that of the new EV5 and EV9. In addition, it also incorporates some technical innovations of interest.

The optical groups acquire thinner and more angular shapes; On the other hand, the GT-line finish includes an LED bar in the “Tiger Nose” grille that connects the headlights. Updated the bumpers have also, and there is a new selection of 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels. The changes at the back are nuanced.

The same happens in the cabin, where we should highlight the updated steering wheel and the new frame that encompasses the two screens of the infotainment system. As a first, the brand has installed a fingerprint authentication system for keyless starting and a digital rearview mirror using a camera. Remove the piano’s black trim.

Safety has also improved since the B-pillar is now thicker to improve the rigidity of the monocoque and add side airbags to the rear seats (most cars on the market only have curtain airbags in the second row). , thereby improving the protection of passengers traveling in the back.

The KIA EV6 is now more comfortable, safer, and quieter.

Acoustic comfort is also more careful: the electric motors are quieter, and additional insulating material has been added to the rear propeller. The shock absorbers, for their part, have been adjusted to offer a more comfortable ride. The infotainment system with OTA (Over-the-air) updates includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, with sharing a platform, the KIA EV6 receives an 84 kWh battery, replacing the previous 77.4 kWh pack. Although its homologated autonomy under the WLTP cycle is unknown, it is expected it will comfortably exceed the 528 km of its predecessor. Of course, it maintains its 800-volt electrical architecture, which allows it to go from 10 to 80% charge in 18 minutes.

It is unclear whether the high-performance GT variant will benefit from the powertrain already seen in the IONIQ 5 N, which produces 650 HP (478 kW), far exceeding the 585 HP (430 kW) of the current EV6 GT.
