The next 2025 Porsche Panamera will be electric, but it will differ from the sportier Taycan by offering extra space and luxury.
Porsche unveiled the updated Taycan a few weeks ago. Among other intriguing changes, the mid-life redesign of the German model includes bigger capacity batteries (105 kWh against 93 kWh), which offer a maximum range of 678 km WLTP, or 175 km more than previously.
The increased kinematic chain power has boosted performance throughout the range. For instance, the Turbo S can now achieve 952 HP (700 kW) and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds faster than previously. A crazy three-engine Turbo GT variant will soon be added to the mechanical lineup, further enhancing it.
The Stuttgart company is already developing the next generation of sports sedans, which will simultaneously share development with the Panamera, their older sibling. Technically speaking, both will be comparable, although the Taycan (E category) will still be smaller than the Panamera (F segment).
According to Kevin Giek, the chairman of the Taycan family, “We have a great interest in maintaining this line in a lasting way, like the 911, as we do with all our car lines,” he told the British media Autocar. “When we decided to have a new model line, we didn’t think about only having it for three or four years.”
The new Porsche Taycan and Panamera will use the Volkswagen Group’s SSP Sport platform.
The Taycan and Panamera of the future may debut in 2027–2028. Utilizing the SSP Sports platform from the Volkswagen Group, they should be able to charge in as little as 12 minutes (the new Taycan promises to charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes). Giek claims that the Taycan would prioritize sportiness, while the Panamera will be more roomy and opulent.
Given that it will only be utilized in the next Cayenne (2026), the PPE platform, which was only launched in Macan, will have a brief lifespan. “The PPE is a perfect SUV platform, but the Taycan is not an SUV.” This architecture will also power the Audi A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, and Bentley.
To retain a low body height, the Boxster will also be electrified in 2025, although it will have a different base with the batteries placed in the rear compartment, a setup akin to a mid-engine thermal sports car. Its propulsion system will, of course, share many components with those of the Taycan and Macan.
