Florida has made another stride toward a greener future with the launch of the Rice Creek Solar Energy Center, a massive solar farm now online and delivering nearly 75 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity to 12 cities across the state. This solar farm, located in Putnam County near Palatka, is a significant component of the Florida Municipal Solar Project, one of the largest municipal solar initiatives in the United States.

The Rice Creek Solar Energy Center was developed and is operated by Origis Energy, a Miami-based renewable energy company. According to Josh Teigiser, a representative of Origis Energy, the project supports a stable energy rate base and contributes to lower utility bills for customers.

The Florida Municipal Solar Project aims to grow to seven solar sites in total over the coming years.
